Visiting Tower Bridge: What to See, Hours and Getting There
The walking tour ends at Tower Bridge, where your included ticket gets you into the two towers and the high-level walkways that link them. You climb up by stairs or lift to reach the walkways, which have glass floor panels so you can look straight down at the road and the Thames below. From up here you get wide views over the city, including the Tower of London, the Shard and, further off, the Houses of Parliament. The route then drops down to the Victorian Engine Rooms, home to the original steam engines and hydraulic machinery that once raised and lowered the road. Exhibits along the way explain how the bridge was designed and how it still works.
Tower Bridge is at Tower Bridge Rd, London SE1 2UP. The closest Underground station is Tower Hill on the Circle and District lines, and buses 100, 343 and RV1 all stop nearby. You can also just follow the Thames path on foot. The attraction is usually open daily from 09:30 to 18:00, with last entry at 17:00, though hours shift with the season and special events, so check the official site before you go. The bridge still lifts regularly for river traffic and the lift times are published in advance, so it's worth looking them up if you want to catch one in action.
