Visiting the Eiffel Tower: Levels, Access, and Opening Hours

The tower is split across three levels, and this ticket covers all of them by elevator. The first floor has a glass section you can stand on and look straight down to the Champ de Mars below. The second floor opens up the wide panoramas, plus shops and places to eat. At the summit, Paris spreads out in every direction, and you can see Gustave Eiffel's restored office and the champagne bar up there.

You'll find the Eiffel Tower on the Champ de Mars at 5 Avenue Anatole France, in central Paris. Metro lines 6, 8, and 9 stop at Bir-Hakeim or Passy, the RER C stops at Champ de Mars–Tour Eiffel or Pont de l'Alma, and bus lines 42 and 82 run nearby. Everyone enters through the secured esplanade, mainly via the East (Pilier Est) and South (Pilier Sud) entrances, where security is done.

The tower is open daily, with longer hours in summer. From April to August it's open roughly 08:45 to 00:45, with elevator access 09:00 to 00:00. From September to March it's open about 09:15 to 23:45, with elevator access 09:30 to 23:00. Summit access runs until around 22:45, subject to weather and crowds, and last entry is one hour before closing.

FAQs

How much are Eiffel Tower tickets?
Prices depend on how far up you go, with separate options for stair or elevator access to the second floor and elevator access to the summit. Rates shift by season and availability, so it's worth comparing current ticket types online before you book.
Do I need a ticket for the Eiffel Tower?
Yes. Everyone needs a ticket to go up, whether by stairs or elevator. You can't go beyond the security area without one.
How do I get summit tickets?
The summit is reachable only by elevator, and those tickets are limited and sell out fast. Booking summit access online ahead of time is the surest way to get it.
Where can I buy Eiffel Tower tickets?
You can buy on-site or online. Booking online lets you secure a timed entry, compare the ticket options, and usually skip the longest queues.
How tall is the Eiffel Tower?
It stands about 330 meters (1,083 feet) tall, counting its antennas.
When does the Eiffel Tower sparkle?
After sunset, the tower sparkles for five minutes at the start of every hour, carrying on until late at night.
Who built the Eiffel Tower?
It was built by the engineer Gustave Eiffel and his company.
Why was the Eiffel Tower built?

Are there restaurants in the Eiffel Tower?
Yes, there are restaurants on both the first and second floors.
Can I see beyond Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower?
On a clear day the summit gives the widest view the tower offers, reaching well past the edges of Paris. It sits just over 300 meters up on the Champ de Mars beside the Seine.
Did Parisians always like the Eiffel Tower?
Not at all. It was meant to be a temporary structure and plenty of Parisians disliked it at first, but the iron lattice stayed on and became the city's defining image.
Where's the best spot to photograph the Eiffel Tower?
The Trocadero gardens across the river are the classic vantage point for a shot of the whole tower. Both Trocadero and the Champ de Mars sit on the Metro, so they're easy to reach.
How long does a visit to the Eiffel Tower take?
Most visits run about one and a half to three hours depending on how high you go and how long the security and elevator lines are, which get longest in summer and around sunset.
