About Disneyland Park
Disneyland Park opened in 1955 in Anaheim, California, as the only theme park Walt Disney personally oversaw from design to opening day. It remains the heart of the larger Disneyland Resort, and for a lot of visitors it carries a weight the newer parks don't, since this is where the whole idea started. The layout is built around a central hub in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, with themed lands branching off it: Main Street U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Mickey's Toontown, New Orleans Square, Critter Country, and the Star Wars area, Galaxy's Edge.
The park mixes classic rides that have run for decades, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds, with newer attractions tied to more recent films. Several of the headline rides use a virtual queue or a paid line-skipping system that you reserve through the official Disneyland app, so it's worth downloading the app and setting up your account before you arrive rather than in the entrance line. Admission is a separate ticket, and prices vary by date, so same-day walk-up visits during busy periods aren't always possible without a reservation.
Disneyland and the neighbouring Disney California Adventure sit side by side, sharing an entrance plaza, which is why many tickets are sold as single-park or park-hopper options. A single day is enough for the main attractions in one park if you plan around the busiest hours, but two days is more comfortable if you want both parks or the evening shows and fireworks. Peak crowds hit on weekends, holidays, and through summer, so an early arrival close to opening time makes a real difference to how many rides you fit in.
