About this tour

Derinkuyu is the deepest of Cappadocia's underground cities, carved more than 85 meters into soft volcanic rock and once able to shelter thousands of people. Your ticket gets you inside the multi-level warren of tunnels, where you can walk through old living quarters, food stores, stables, and churches, all kept breathable by a clever network of ventilation shafts. Give yourself time to wander the narrow, connected chambers and see how an entire community lived below ground.

Good to Know Before You Go

Derinkuyu's opening hours shift with the season, and it's generally open during daylight hours. Because the schedule changes through the year, check the current times before you head over so you don't arrive to a closed gate.

There's no formal dress code, but you'll be walking a lot and climbing plenty of stairs through low, narrow passages, so wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes. Modest dress is appreciated given the site's history. Watch your head in the tighter tunnels and low-ceilinged sections as you make your way down through the levels.
