Hagia Sophia Hours and Dress Code

Hagia Sophia is open every day from 09:00 to 19:00, with the last entry at 18:30. It's still a working mosque, so visiting hours bend around the five daily Islamic prayers. During each prayer the building closes to tourists completely, usually for about 75 to 90 minutes. The one to plan around is Friday, when it's reserved for the main weekly prayer from 12:30 to 14:30. Any other time outside of prayers, you're free to walk through.

Because it's an active mosque, everyone needs to dress modestly. Women should wear a skirt to at least the knee or full-length trousers, keep shoulders and arms covered, and bring a headscarf to wear inside. Men need full-length trousers or knee-length shorts, and no sleeveless tops. The rules are more relaxed for children under eight.
