Good to Know: Top of the Rock Decks, Hours and Getting There

After the guided walk ends, you'll make your own way up to Top of the Rock, the observation complex at the top of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the 70-story Art Deco tower at the center of Rockefeller Center. Your guide does not come with you for this part. The ride up is quick, and the climb takes you through the Welcome Gallery, where photos and exhibits trace how Rockefeller Center and its observation deck came to be. On the indoor level, the Weather Room Café and Bar is a comfortable spot to grab a drink by the large windows before heading higher.

There are three deck levels, each with a slightly different angle on the city. The 67th floor mixes indoor viewing space with open terraces. The 69th floor is all outdoor, so you can walk the building and see the skyline from every side. The 70th floor is the open-air top deck, where the view opens up to Central Park in the north, the Empire State Building to the south, and Manhattan laid out in all directions. The decks are partly open to the air, so dress a little warmer than you would at street level since the wind picks up up top.

Top of the Rock sits at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Midtown. The easiest way to reach it is the B, D, F or M train to 47-50th Streets, Rockefeller Center, then a short walk to the entrance. Opening hours run daily from 08:00 to 23:00, with last entry at 22:10, though times can shift around holidays and special events, so it's worth checking the latest schedule before you go.
