Good to Know Before You Visit SUMMIT One Vanderbilt

SUMMIT sits at the top of One Vanderbilt in Midtown Manhattan, right next to Grand Central Terminal, and the visit runs across several floors that mix observation decks with large-scale art. Your 90-minute guided tour moves through the mirrored Air galleries, out onto the Levitation glass skyboxes above Madison Avenue, through the Affinity room with its floating silver spheres, and finishes at the open-air Après terrace and lounge. From up here you can pick out the Empire State Building to the south and Central Park to the north, and on clear days the view reaches across the Hudson River to Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

The space is open daily, generally from 09:00 to 00:00, with last entry at 22:30, though hours can change, so it's worth checking before you go. Late afternoon and sunset are the busiest and most popular windows; a clear morning tends to give the sharpest long-distance views. Because the floors and walls are mirrored, it's best to wear pants, shorts, or tights, since skirts and dresses can leave you more exposed than you'd like. The entrance is on Vanderbilt Avenue, with a street-level door at 45 East 42nd Street and access from the Main Concourse of Grand Central (follow signs to the One Vanderbilt Transit Hall); note that you cannot reach SUMMIT through One Vanderbilt's main lobby. By subway, take the 4, 5, 6, 7, or S to Grand Central–42nd Street.
