Visiting SUMMIT One Vanderbilt: What to See, Hours and Dress Code

SUMMIT One Vanderbilt is built as a sequence of rooms rather than a single platform, so plan to move through it floor by floor. The heart of the visit is Air by Kenzo Digital, multi-level mirrored galleries whose reflective walls, ceilings and floors multiply the skyline until the city seems to stretch out endlessly. From there the Levitation glass skyboxes cantilever out over Madison Avenue for a straight-down view of the streets, the Affinity room fills with floating silver spheres you can set in motion, and the walk ends on the open-air Après terrace and lounge, where you can slow down over views of the Empire State Building and Midtown.

The viewpoints here are some of the sharpest in Midtown. Looking south the Empire State Building anchors the skyline; to the north Central Park opens up, and on clear days you can pick out the Hudson River, Lower Manhattan and even the Statue of Liberty far off. Mornings tend to give the crispest long-distance views, while sunset and night are the busiest, when the mirrors catch the city lights.

SUMMIT sits at the top of One Vanderbilt next to Grand Central Terminal, with the main entrance on Vanderbilt Avenue. You can reach it from the Main Concourse of Grand Central by following signs to the One Vanderbilt Transit Hall, from the street-level entrance at 45 East 42nd Street, or from the Transit Hall entrance at Vanderbilt Avenue and 43rd Street. Note that you cannot get in through the main lobby of One Vanderbilt. By subway, take the 4, 5, 6, 7 or S to Grand Central-42nd Street; buses M1, M2, M3, M4, M42, M101, M102, M103 and Q32 stop nearby on Madison Avenue.

The venue is open daily, generally from 09:00 to 00:00, with last entry at 22:30, though hours can change. On dress code: because floors and walls are mirrored, it is best to wear pants, shorts or tights. Anyone in a dress or skirt may be exposed by the reflective floors.
