About this tour

Spend an hour inside Istanbul's Sultan Ahmed Mosque with a licensed, English-speaking guide who walks you through its history and architecture. You'll see the interior lined with more than 20,000 blue Iznik tiles, the six minarets that set it apart on the skyline, and the light pouring through over 200 stained glass windows into the prayer hall. This is still a working mosque, so the mood stays calm and reverent. When the guided portion wraps up, you're free to linger and take it all in on your own time.

Visiting Hours & What to Wear

The Blue Mosque is open to visitors every day, though the hours shift with the season. From April 1 to September 30 you can visit between 08:30 and 19:00, and from October 1 to March 31 the doors close earlier, from 08:30 to 17:00. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing.

Because it is a working mosque, it shuts to visitors during each of the five daily prayers, with each closure running about 90 minutes, and it stays closed on Friday mornings until 14:30 for the Jumu'ah prayer. Outside those windows, you're free to go in and look around.

A modest dress code applies to everyone. Women should wear a skirt at knee length or longer or full-length trousers, keep shoulders and arms covered, and put on a headscarf inside. Men need full-length trousers or knee-length shorts, and sleeveless tops aren't allowed. Children under eight have no dress requirement.
